Winter has barreled through and left behind snow– lots of it. This is a time of year that begs for color, brightness, and hope that warmer days promise.

Months ago I bought these fabrics simply because I was drawn to their vivid color and cheerful energy. I had a plan in mind: to practice making Dresden Plates, a traditional quilting pattern, while slowly building a stash of finished Dresdens. I really don’t know what I’ll do with them, but that is beside the point. Sometimes you just need to go with what moves you. That’s how creativity works.
I focused on letting these complementary fabrics speak while experimenting with a variety of Dresden Plate patterns, and I’m generally pleased with the results. Each one feels a little different than the last, though all are playful, whimsical and filled with possibility.
Now I need to think about what comes next. As always, the fabric remnants are added to my stash. Will they be used for children’s items or for more sophisticated, though whimsical, projects? How will they show up in future work?
For now they wait.
Watch this space to see what happens next. (Be patient! It may take a bit of time.)
