
That same old quilt—though only a throw—still had a lot of life left in it. I repurposed it by adapting a quilt design I’d seen at a quilt show and made a handmade throw for my daughter and her husband. As you can see, the design reflects their love of Paris.
The quilt is a bit clunky, and I worked carefully with colors they like. I’m not overjoyed with the results, but it did something far more meaningful: it turned a repurposed quilt into a memory quilt, carrying my daughter’s love for her grandmother right to her doorstep and into her daily life.
Never underestimate the effect handmade art can have on others. Its staying power is remarkable.
